Jersey City Recreation
Did you know that Ellis Island lies within Jersey City’s borders? For nearly sixty years, until 1952, Ellis Island was the main entry for immigrants. It is inactive, but still serves as a time capsule for American History. It’s a landmark that should not be missed, and you can take a Circle Line ferry to the island from Liberty State Park.
Liberty State Park takes up about a mile of the Jersey City waterfront, and aside from offering many trails, picnic grounds and overlook points (where you can see the Statue of Liberty and the Manhattan skyline), holds annual festivals such as the Liberty Jazz Festival.
Liberty State Park is also the home to the Liberty Science Center, a great option for a family outing. With interactive exhibitions and hi-tech displays, it’s an entertaining place for both children and adults to learn. Afterwards, go to one of the many restaurants, where you can get old-fashioned surf and turf, or a tasty ethnic experience.
Golf lovers will be happy to see that they’re only a couple of minutes from the incredible Liberty National Golf Course, which offers 18-holes and a total of 7,346 yards of golf. Imagine teeing off with the Statue of Liberty on the horizon, cheering you on – it is truly breathtaking.
